Grandular Fertilizer vs. Liquid |

At Southern Care Lawns we use only the best fertilizers. We chose granular because it best suits what we want to provide to you, our customer. Our company was based on quality vs. quantity and it always will be! We are not concerned about how many lawns we do in one day, but what we do on each lawn and the results we achieve. Granular fertilizer provides a longer-term color response to your lawn. It provides a slow gradual release of nutrients which does not promote excessive growth too quickly which can trigger potential insect and disease issues. Picture this scenario: You have another lawn care company besides Southern Care Lawns. Your lawn is set for its initial application in mid June. Your lawn technician uses liquid fertilizer. In his mix is also weed control and insect control. This is common with other companies because they try to do as many lawns as possible each day. Reducing trips they must make over a lawn increases their product ability and profitability. The lawn technician travels to your home and arrives at 3:40 p.m. He makes his application and finishes at 3:55 p.m. He leaves you a bill for $45.00 and at 4:15 p.m. the sky lets loose with a real gully washer rain storm, which we have regularly all summer. You just spent $45.00 for the material he applied to be either washed away or diluted so much of it's effectiveness will be lessened. This is why we use granular fertilizer which needs to be watered heavily to become activated and it is specially coated, allowing it not to break down all at once. With other companies 5% of the total gallonage filled is fertilizer and the rest is water which is used as the carrier. Even if you do not become a customer of ours, we recommend a granular based fertilization program. You will see the difference.

Potassium Supplements
|
Potassium is a macronutrient, which is highly important in proper plant and turf growth and development. It is the third number on a fertilizer bag and is important in root initiation, growth and stress tolerance. Florida soils are typically low in potassium and although we apply it with each visit, we may sometimes recommend a supplemental application of only potassium at a higher analysis and rate than is typically applied. This will be indicated on soil tests or may be recommended by your technician should they see a visual need for it or if the lawn is under a stressed condition. Often, a thin lawn with good color is a sign that potassium may be lacking. It is a recommended supplement on an annual basis, as it is easily leached or “washed out” of our soils from heavy rains. It does not directly increase growth, but improves root growth and chemical function within the plant. It may be also a viable aid to those lawns with excessively high nematode levels, as no direct, effective, chemical treatment is available for lawns affected with nematodes. The cost would be your current lawn application price.

TOP CHOICE Fire Ant Control |
Fire ant infestations in our area are an annoying problem. With each visit, we treat visible fire ant mounds (if any), either with baits or direct liquid drenching. In some cases, that may not be enough. A relatively new product is now available for control of fire ants. The product is used once per year. It is called TOP CHOICE. This is a granular fire ant control applied to both lawn and shrub bed areas, once per year. It provides the best, long-term fire ant control available for home lawn use. After application, there is typically a four to six week period of fire ant activity that may occur. After that short timeframe, you will enjoy a year of no fire ant problems. The product is bound to soil particles in the top few inches and remains active and present for one year. The product kills all fire ants that will walk across or in the treated areas. Because it is granular and very little product is needed to do the job, it is generally safe for home use. Beyond the control of fire ants, it also offers control of mole crickets (four months), fleas / ticks (one month), and nuisance ants (three months). It is an excellent product if you are active in your yard or have small children. The cost is easy to figure. We offer it at three times your regular application cost. One application, no fire ants for one year. Nice!!!!!!!

Aeration |
Aeration is the process in which cores of thatch and soil are punched and pulled out of your lawn. Aeration opens up of the soil and allows water, nutrients and oxygen to penetrate and improve the root zone for a healthier soil and stronger turfgrass root system. Aeration can reduce watering by up to 50%. Here is what we do. We use a mechanical aeration machine to pull out the soil cores.
